‘Mindless Barbarism’ — Akume Condemns Benue Killings.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has expressed deep shock and outrage at the scale of the attacks by terrorists on the community of Yelewata in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, last weekend.

A statement by his spokesperson, Terrence Kuanum, described the incident as “mindless barbarism” and stressed that it is completely unacceptable for over 200 innocent lives predominantly women and children to be cut short in such a brutal manner.

Akume, who previously governed Benue State from May 1999 to May 2007, offered his condolences to the families of the victims and extended his sympathies to survivors, while calling for an immediate and decisive end to such reprehensible attacks across the country.

He said, “As a former state governor, I appreciate the complexities involved in addressing insecurity, and I urge all political, religious, and traditional leaders to unite in the collective task of restoring peace not just in Benue, but across Nigeria as a whole.”

The SGF further expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to the country’s service chiefs to eradicate insecurity in Benue State will produce the desired results.

He called on the people to remain resilient, foster unity, and collaborate closely with security agencies in their efforts to bring peace back to their communities, a key objective at the heart of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
