Benue Killings; IGP Arrives Benue, Deploys More Tactical Teams to Combat Rising Violence.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, arrived in Benue State on Monday, following a series of attacks by suspected herdsmen that have left scores dead and hundreds displaced in the state.

Egbetokun, who was accompanied by members of his senior management team, immediately ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to help bring the violence under control.

The police chief is scheduled to meet with Governor Hyacinth Alia and other key stakeholders before returning to Abuja.

Benue State has been battling persistent attacks by suspected herdsmen for some time. The violence often stemming from disputes over land and competition for resources between predominantly agrarian communities and nomadic herders shows no sign of abating.

In the last few weeks alone, more than 160 lives have been lost across various communities in the food-producing state, fueling growing concern about stability and security in the region.
